Sour Shoes or Sour Feet?

If you read the title the title you probably don’t want either of those. Sour feet is just gross and sour shoes are arguably the same. I would think that many people out there don’t know how to control this problem but have tried many solutions. Foot odor sometimes runs in the family and could be a medical condition but, who said you can’t treat it yourself? No one!

Say you have a busy day, walking around a lot. At the end of the day you sit down, take your shoes off and an odor just smacks you across the face. You’re wondering how that happened in one day right. Now you could buy insole that’ll help the smell but who wants to spend that much money when you could do it yourself?

If there is already odor in your shoes here are a couple tips you could use:

Baking Soda – It is known that if you pour some in your shoe after wearing them and leave them in overnight then in the morning dust those off it should reduce the odor.

Freezer – Putting your shoes in a Ziploc bag and put them in the freezer overnight will kill bacteria and fungus.

Washer – This should be obvious! IF your shoes can be washed and has the right materials you should do this.

Now you say you just bought a new pair of shoes and want to keep them fresh and clean. There a couple ways of preventing smell. Of course washing your feet is a big thing to do! Don’t forget that, even though I don’t know how you could. Also, you don’t have to wear the same shoes everyday change it up sometimes. Wearing the same shoes everyday could cause them to smell horribly.

Different Materials Equals A Different Process

As you look around and see other people’s shoes you see many different materials. If there was just one material that would be used for a shoe then shoes would be BORING. All the different materials gives shoes a different kind of flare and style that makes them unique. Of course these materials can not be cleaned the same way. One technique for cleaning might mess up a different shoe completely because of the different material.

Also with there being different materials that’s used on shoes there are also different types of shoes for different activities. Shoes for many types of uses range from, Athletic, Boots, and Dress and Casual.  Dress and Casual shoes uses WAY different types of materials compared to Athletic so the cleaning process are different.

I was looking online to see how to clean different types of shoes for different materials and I’m here to share with whoever is reading.

For rubber shoes, or the rubber soles of the shoes you can use a toothbrush and toothpaste. Also you can check my previous posts for a brief and easy way on how to clean rubber soles.

Canvas shoes are little tougher than suede so they will be a little easier to clean.
  • ·         You can use a wash cloth with some detergent or toothpaste and rub around the dirty area of it.
  • ·         Once you do that you can also spray on some type of fabric protector you can buy from your local store.

One thing good about canvas shoes you can also use the washing machine which makes life a LOT easier.
·         Put your shoes in a pillow case or if you want just put them in the washer.
  • ·         Add detergent and use the warm cycle.
  • ·         DO NOT put your shoes in the dryer because they may morph into a different shape, just let them air dry.

Take Care Of Your Air Jordans

We all know the jumpman logo and what it stands for. Michael Jordan, arguably the best basketball player ever to play the game. His shoes are almost another person. They are iconic and sought out for. Air Jordans to most people are not just shoes, they’re SHOES. People treasure Air Jordans like they are actual treasure. When you put on a pair of Air Jordan’s it just makes you feel different, they make you feel like you’re on clouds because of how good they look. Well….maybe that’s just a couple people.
Air Jordans have so many different materials that are used for them for the many models that they have. Different Air Jordans require different types of care. I was browsing the internet again to see the different techniques to cleaning Air Jordans and preserving them. YES JORDANS ARE REALLY THIS SERIOUS TO CERTAIN PEOPLE. I personally have a few pairs but not many and I keep them fairly decent. I came across some directions on how to keep your Air Jordans in good shape.

Some things I read were about:
Having special bags for them.
Buying force guards
- Force guards are good for preventing your jordans from creasing. Just put them in your shoe after every wear and they should last.
Trying not to wear them in bad weather.
-This is the obvious because rain and new shoes really don’t mix. They destroy the material and everything.
Keep them in dark areas.
-You would do this because light can age a sneaker to the worse possibility. It’s just like skin in the sun too long, it’ll wrinkle and eventually tear away.
Stay away from clubs and dances
Don’t drive with nice shoes.
Driving with jordans can crease them easier. The 45 angle degree of the pedal will cause them to bend.

Preserving Sneakers Are Like Preserving Fruit?

Sneakers are like fruit? Have you ever heard that? To some people this is true, and for me it is. I’m not obsessed with shoes but they are something I wouldn’t want to be destroyed. Of course I’m not the only person who is like this, the sneaker community is CRAZY huge and there are people who love their sneakers like they love their family.

Shoes are built to last forever right? Right but, most of us don’t know how preserve them even more. The basics of keeping shoes clean and fresh are simple, wear them, take them off, put them back in the box and that’s it. There are different ways to preserve your shoes as I was browsing online and researching which I’ll get into.

For different shoes there are different ways to keep your shoes fresh. The different materials that are used for shoes require different precautions. Say if it’s suede, there are many suede cleaners that you can use to clean suede. Leather requires a lot of care, depending on what type of leather it is. Rubber is a really easy material to clean because you can almost use anything. I stated in earlier blog post that Magic Eraser is the best solution for rubber. Some shoes also require just air because shoes that are left untouched might disintegrate. Believe it or not shoe collectors that have a really really rare shoe leaves them untouched and or in sneaker head lingo “DS” or Deadstock.

As I browsing the internet and I came across this website that had a list of a few things on how to care for shoes:
According to Wikihow:

"Step 1: Organize your shoes and make a place to put your shoes.
  • Don't pile the shoes on top of each other, as that might leave dirt or marks on your shoes.
  • Don't rest things on top of your shoes or rest shoes on their tops. This avoids crushing them.
  • Create special storage for special shoes. If you have a pair of good dress shoes that you only wear with your good suit, keep them free of dust by storing them in a box or bag.
  • Maintain the shape of the toe of softer shoes by packing them loosely with clean tissue. Or, use a cardboard, wood, or plastic shape designed for this purpose."

This I agree with because shoes kind of fragile in a way. Shoes are part of a wardrobe and should be taken care of the same way as expensive piece of clothing.

"Step 2: Avoid stepping in dirt."

This is the obvious, obviously. Dirt, mud, wet grass, puddles, will ALWAYS ruin shoes and will required a lot of cleaning afterwards.

Sole Service

If you didn’t know already, the sole of the shoe is the rubber that wraps around the sole. Since it is the part of the shoe that’s close to the ground it is meant to be the dirtiest. If you are a shoe lover you KNOW that the sole should be the cleanest part to really show off the pair of shoes you’re wearing. There are many solutions on how clean the sole of the shoes. Keeping them clean is nearly impossible unless you’re walking around with your shoes in plastic but, who really wants to be that guy?

Since most soles of shoes are rubber they’re not that difficult to clean and can be done in short manner of time. One of the most common way to clean a dirty sole is using a toothbrush, soap and or toothpaste and clean water.

Here I’ll take you through on how to clean your shoes using this method in which I’ll call “Dirty Soles Needs Cleansing.

Step 1: Gather the supplies.
You’ll need:
·
  •          Shoes with dirty soles
  •          Toothbrush
  •          Toothpaste or soap
  •          Water
  •          Paper Towels or Rag

Step 2: Once you have gather the supplies, wet the toothbrush bristles and apply your soap or toothpaste.

Step 3: Next, take a paper towel and wet it also and when you do rub it on the sole of your shoes but, not too much to where water is just leaking off the shoes.

Step 4: Once you have done this take your toothbrush with the soap or toothpaste on it and scrub the dirty part of the soles.

Step 5: Once all the soap or toothpaste is no longer on the toothbrush you can add more repeat step 5 if needed.

Step 6: When you have scrubbed the sole now you can rinse off the soap or toothpaste with the water and use a paper towel or rag to dry the sole off.

AND THERE YOU GO!
Here's the finished product:
