Preserving Sneakers Are Like Preserving Fruit?

Sneakers are like fruit? Have you ever heard that? To some people this is true, and for me it is. I’m not obsessed with shoes but they are something I wouldn’t want to be destroyed. Of course I’m not the only person who is like this, the sneaker community is CRAZY huge and there are people who love their sneakers like they love their family.

Shoes are built to last forever right? Right but, most of us don’t know how preserve them even more. The basics of keeping shoes clean and fresh are simple, wear them, take them off, put them back in the box and that’s it. There are different ways to preserve your shoes as I was browsing online and researching which I’ll get into.

For different shoes there are different ways to keep your shoes fresh. The different materials that are used for shoes require different precautions. Say if it’s suede, there are many suede cleaners that you can use to clean suede. Leather requires a lot of care, depending on what type of leather it is. Rubber is a really easy material to clean because you can almost use anything. I stated in earlier blog post that Magic Eraser is the best solution for rubber. Some shoes also require just air because shoes that are left untouched might disintegrate. Believe it or not shoe collectors that have a really really rare shoe leaves them untouched and or in sneaker head lingo “DS” or Deadstock.

As I browsing the internet and I came across this website that had a list of a few things on how to care for shoes:
According to Wikihow:

"Step 1: Organize your shoes and make a place to put your shoes.
  • Don't pile the shoes on top of each other, as that might leave dirt or marks on your shoes.
  • Don't rest things on top of your shoes or rest shoes on their tops. This avoids crushing them.
  • Create special storage for special shoes. If you have a pair of good dress shoes that you only wear with your good suit, keep them free of dust by storing them in a box or bag.
  • Maintain the shape of the toe of softer shoes by packing them loosely with clean tissue. Or, use a cardboard, wood, or plastic shape designed for this purpose."

This I agree with because shoes kind of fragile in a way. Shoes are part of a wardrobe and should be taken care of the same way as expensive piece of clothing.

"Step 2: Avoid stepping in dirt."

This is the obvious, obviously. Dirt, mud, wet grass, puddles, will ALWAYS ruin shoes and will required a lot of cleaning afterwards.
